At Quiip we’ve just been given the great news that we are among the first 250 companies in Australia to gain B Corporation (B Corp) certification. For those who may not be aware of B Corp certification, essentially it is to sustainable business what Fair Trade certification is to coffee.
The B Corp website explains it perfectly:
“B Corporations represent an emerging group of companies that are using the power of business to create a positive impact on the world and generate a shared and durable prosperity for all.
Certified B Corporations have undertaken the B Impact Assessment, scored over 80, and have signed a term sheet that declares that they will consider all stakeholders. It is a rigorous assessment that explores a company’s governance, transparency, environmental and social impact. B Corps voluntarily hold themselves to a higher level of accountability in these areas.”
It’s been a long journey but very worthwhile. The process is rigorous to ensure companies meet B Corp’s high standards and the process has enabled us to improve many aspects of how we do business.
“Together, B Corps redefine success in business by competing not to be the best in the world, but to be the best for the world.”
B Corps believe that business can be a force for good – and that very much speaks to our culture and ethos at Quiip. B Corps are committed to “redefining success”, it is their unifying goal, and this is a mission and something I’ve contemplated extensively in launching and operating Quiip for the last eight years.
The B Corp declaration states that business ought to be conducted as if people and place matter. As online community managers, often supporting vulnerable and at-risk communities, we feel it is vital to carry this mantra into the online space.
Quiip has long believed that companies can impact change. As an employer, we have significant influence in our employees’ lives and that’s an opportunity I’ve enjoyed using as a positive force. We have radically flexible hours, we support personal and professional goals and we strive to have a low environmental impact while supporting a culture of giving back. Our B Corp certification further cements these beliefs and takes our focus and commitment to the next level.
Rose Marcario, CEO of Patagonia sums it up beautifully here: “The B Corp movement is one of the most important of our lifetime, built on the simple fact that business impacts and serves more than just shareholders—it has an equal responsibility to the community and to the planet.”
Quiip proudly joins brands such as Australian Ethical, Who Gives A Crap, KeepCup, Stone & Wood, Emma & Tom’s, Sendle, and more. Together, we will be the change that we seek in the world.
