Meet the Team: Pritika
When you partner with Quiip you get the opportunity to work with a team of 24 wonderful community and social media managers. All whom bring their own fascinating stories, lives, perspectives and skills to the hive mind. To kick off this Meet the Team series, we’re delighted to introduce Senior Community & Content Manager, Pritika Sachdev.
When did you join Quiip, and what led you to Quiip?
I joined Quiip in December 2020, after a year of freelancing and job hunting for something more permanent. I had heard of Quiip in 2017 when Alison led a self care for community managers talk in Melbourne. Quiip was engaged for holiday cover for the role I was in at the time – I loved their work and am thrilled to now be a part of the team!
What were some of your prior roles?
I previously worked in the Australian indie video games industry as a freelance community manager. I was also the lead community manager for CheckPoint, a non-profit that focused on mental health for gaming communities.
What are some of your favourite places on the internet?
Currently I love both Tumblr and Discord. I’ve curated my Tumblr feed to be a place of creative inspiration, writing and a number of fan communities I enjoy. I love Discord as I’m part of some game development discords and also some fandom and interest ones, where I’ve connected with like minded gamers and writers. I make sure all my communities are safe and cosy.
What are the current client projects you work on?
This Girl Can – Victoria, the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation, Blackmores BioCeuticals, Movember, and Women and Leadership Australia.
What project/client stands out and why do you enjoy it?
Working with VicHealth has been a fantastic experience. I’m currently head of content for all This Girl Can – Victoria social channels, and enjoy our relationship with the team. It feels like we’re all working towards the same goal as partners on this campaign.
Are there any brand communities or social media that you really love?
A lot of mine are gaming communities! I love Kinder World, I think they’ve created a mindful and cosy community for their players. I also think Unpacking (another Australian indie game) is a twitter channel that understands their audience, themes and memes and makes them work so cohesively.
What does flexible work enable you to get up to outside of work?
It allows me to spend time with my family, my dog and my hobbies. I adopted a greyhound who is a bigger house-body than me! He loves the fact that I’m able to spend time at home with him. I also appreciate that I am able to take my work on the go, if I am looking to leave the house, often I take the train into the city, work from a cafe and enjoy wandering around.
What is something quirky or interesting about you?
Oh gosh, I have 2 things:
– I love Eurovision and wake up at 5am every year on grand final day to watch it live.
– I write fan-fiction in my spare time.
What do you think the future of social media and/or community management holds?
I think we’re currently seeing a fracture in social media as we know it. People are slowly leaving Twitter and Facebook. I think there’s a pivot to smaller, decentralised communities with a proper rule set that protects those in the communities. Safety is now an issue that is talked about and considered, and they idea that you have to be online all the time is fading away.
