Celebrating 15 years of connecting and protecting communities online

This month, we’re celebrating Quiip’s 15th birthday! Join us as we mark this major milestone and reflect on the impact we’ve had, what we’ve achieved, and where we’re headed.


From a pioneering idea to industry leader

Founded in 2010 by CEO Alison Michalk, Quiip began as a small, remote-first agency with a vision to transform community management practice and advocate for safe, inclusive and meaningful digital spaces.

Recognising an urgent need for expert guidance in the face of social media growth, Quip emerged at a pivotal moment – when businesses and organisations were just beginning to understand and navigate the opportunities, challenges and risks of online communities. 

Today, Quiip is a team of over 25 community management specialists working with leading brands and organisations to deliver world-class community management services in Australia and internationally. And we’re still proudly remote-first!

Our proudest moments

Over the past 15 years, Quiip has helped shape the community management industry, delivering best practice moderation, community building and consulting services in Australia and beyond. 

A few of our highlights include:

  • Becoming one of Australia’s first 250 certified B Corporations
  • Supporting community professionals by co-founding initiatives like Swarm conference, State of Community Management report and Australia’s first network for community managers.
  • Growing our team with our first international hires
  • Donating over $150,000 to not-for-profits through initiatives such as Pledge 1% and an employee charity-matching program
  • Launching an Employee Share Ownership Plan
  • Developing our impact roadmap with a goal to leave a positive impact on people and the planet.

Looking to the future

As the digital landscape continues to shift, Quiip is continuing to transform its approach, remaining platform-agnostic and purpose-led. From the rise of decentralised platforms like Bluesky to the renewed popularity of forums and the need for safer online spaces for young people, we’re actively adapting to meet the needs of online communities. 

We’re keeping a close eye on the impact and effectiveness of AI in community management, while staying grounded in a human-led approach and best practice community building. The team has also expanded our services to include community management of customer review sites, app stores and review communities, enabling best practice customer care and reputation management.
