Meet The Team: Luke
At Quiip, we have a diverse team spread across Australia and the globe. We’re always excited to share their unique stories and insights.
Today, let’s get to know Team Lead, Luke de Silva!

What led or drew you to Quiip?
After meeting Quiip’s Founder and CEO Alison about 12 years ago and thinking, “I could see myself working there one day”, here I am. I was working at Sydney Opera House at that point and have enjoyed an incredibly rewarding career primarily in the arts and not-for-profit sectors in the years since. I’ve always enjoyed working on a variety of things simultaneously and Quiip has been a great new part of that since joining six months ago.
What were some of your prior roles or projects?
My background is in digital – broadcast, content, marketing and technology – and in recent years also digital’s connecting point to broader organisational strategy and impact. Just a few of the organisations I’ve worked with include the Art Gallery of NSW, Carriageworks, Sydney Festival, Sydney Writers’ Festival, Tranby Aboriginal Cooperative, Brisbane Writers Festival, Overland Literary Journal and Red Room Poetry. I’m also the Chairperson of Music in Exile, a charity supporting the careers of culturally and linguistically diverse musicians, and the voluntary Deputy Director of Life for Koori Kids which is a charity for Indigenous children and families in Redfern and its surrounding neighbourhoods.
What are some of your favourite places on the internet?
There’s much wholesomeness to be found in Facebook gardening groups. If you’re interested in growing plants or vegetables, there’s a lifetime’s worth of knowledge being generously shared in Australian Native Plant Enthusiasts forum and Australian Backyard Vegetable Growers #1.

Are there any brand communities or social media that you really love?
I’m biased, but I often use Music in Exile as a reference for social media marketing – it’s genuinely fascinating storytelling told by people who have an intrinsic and deeply considered understanding of the ‘product’, notably none of them with prior marketing experience. I think you can really tell when the person behind the accounts knows their stuff. On the other end of the marketing resourcing spectrum, I think Aēsop does a great job of extending the real-world experience of their stores and products into the social and digital realm. You can tell how important it is to them.
What does remote work enable you to get up to outside of work?
I’m a night owl and have always been very productive in the later hours… For example, I just realised I’m writing this at 10:45pm. As such, I use nighttimes to work on various creative and voluntary projects and inevitably start the day a little slower afterwards.
Tell us something about your life outside of work?
I’m a musician and composer and also present a weekly show on Sydney’s FBi Radio. I also have a strange knack to attract lost or stray animals, mostly dogs and cats, and I have two cats that were once strays and are now spoiled. If my house was bigger there might be more…
