Our B Impact Assessment 2020

by Alison Michalk July 31, 2020

A little over two years ago, Quiip gained B Corp certification, joining a global community of socially and environmentally responsible businesses. Since then we’ve been working hard to support the B Corp movement, and use our business as a force for good. To round off B Corp month this July, we’re pleased to share our first B Impact Report for FY20.

Don’t know what B Corp is? A certified B Corp is a business that has met stringent standards around social and environmental performance, transparency, and legal accountability – it means you can trust that an organisation is doing business in a sustainable way. For Quiip, becoming a B Corp marked the beginning of our journey to redefine success and develop a framework for how we can improve as a business, while valuing people, the planet, and profit.

Our FY20 B Impact Report illustrates the ways in which we’ve improved our business across B Corp’s five key impact areas: Governance, Customers, Workers, Community, and Environment. We added an additional impact area around remote work advocacy and leadership, because as a wholly distributed team, we’re fierce supporters of remote work and radical flexibility.

Some of the initatives we are most proud of are increasing our financial donations to 1.1%+ of our revenue, offering 75 hours of pro bono work to an amazing array of organisations, and introducing secondary caregiver leave.

Our B Impact Report also highlights the advocacy work we’ve undertaken since joining the B Corp community, as well as how our work supports a number of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Created by the United Nations in 2015, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) comprise 17 goals and 169 actionable targets to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and tackle climate change. We recognise that private enterprise has a significant role to play in achieving the UN’s SDGs, and we’re keen to play our part – which is why we’ve joined 700 organisations around the world who’ve committed to Net Zero emissions by 2030.

Even amidst these difficult times, from bushfires to COVID, we’re optimistic we can #buildbackbetter, using the unprecedented challenges we face as a catalyst to commit to improving our community’s physical, social, environmental and economic conditions. We believe the B Corp movement is essential to this plan, as a way that organisations can use business as a force for good.

We’re proud to be part of the global B Corp community and grateful for the support that B Corp provides to organisations like us. We’re looking forward to recertification in May 2021 and building on the improvements we’ve made so far.
